Blue Collar

Post by joskilove »

Richard, Jenny,

I just bought a new DVD player and I christened it by watching the 1978 classic "Blue Collar." For me it's one of my top five all time movies.

Maybe I'm biased. I'm a native Detroiter, the son of an auto worker. My brother and many other friends and relatives still work in the plants.

I've seen the film a million times but whenever I look at it, I become nostalgic over seeing the Detroit of my childhood; the Belle Isle bridge, even the Total station at Jefferson and I-75.

I imagine Eminem tried to capture some of the same thing when he filmed "8 Mile" there.

If you could, and I know it's been more than 25 years, but can you talk about some of your memories filming "Blue Collar?"

joskilove,
Memories? Like the time I beat up Harvey Keitel for being a rude litle fuck?

Richard_Pryor,

Whoa Rich, do tell. What happened? What did Harvey say to set you off?

But besides that man, you reminded me of my dad in that movie. Pissed at Chrysler, pissed at the UAW.

This whole flick was a workin' man's anthem.

BTW, Yaphet Kotto looked like he was really boning that woman in the party scene (that he was dragging up the hallway). Was he? If so, I just found a new technique, jack.

joskilove,

I read on IMDB.com that it was a very "tense" shoot becuase of friction between the actors. Guess it's true huh'.

joskilove,

I also love "Blue Collar" because it reminds me of the Detroit I remember growing up there. As far as "8-Mile" goes, I wouldn't spend one red fucking cent on anything that individual works on. OK, actually I wouldn't take any of his shit if you paid me. Someone should do to him the things he claims he wants to do to women. He needs to learn some respect, and also show Detroit in a positive light. There is too much negative shit in this world, especially about a city thet is 90% black that has recieved more than it's share of bad press from the white media.

Richard,

Keitel had a poor attitude? How shocking! ;)

(Too bad you're beating the shit outta him wasn't caught on film and put on the DVD. I love special features!)
