Prince surprises waiting fans with a show
Wearing a top hat and jacket, he performed at a record store at midnight

Updated: 9:42 p.m. ET March 21, 2006

LOS ANGELES - Fans waiting to buy copies of Prince’s highly anticipated new album, “3121,” were greeted early Tuesday with something even better — a surprise performance by Prince himself.

Wearing a white top hat and jacket, the pop-funk maestro launched into a punchy set of songs at midnight at the Sunset Tower Records in Hollywood.

Fans screamed, dancers onstage shimmied, Prince broke out his frenzied guitar playing, and longtime collaborator Sheila E joined in on percussion, according to a Tower press release.

“It was an impromptu decision. He lives in L.A.,” said Serena Gallagher, publicist for Prince’s label, Universal Motown Records.

About 500 fans who received special purple wristbands at 10 p.m. packed into the store, leaving others outside in the rain.

Prince performed classic hits such as “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Purple Rain” and invited attendees onto the stage for a dance contest.

tamra,
Being the huge Prince fan that I am... just some info. Prince will be on 106th and Park Wednesday... and maybe Thursday too.
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

deepseas,
Just saw on ESPN he is renting that house from Carlos Boozer who plays for the Utah Jazz. Boozer and his wife sued Prince for making alterations to the home.

They just showed the house on ESPN. There is a purple covered walk way and he had the logo and title to his new album placed on the house. No telling what he did on the inside.

I'm assuming lavender EVERYWHERE and a waitstaff of toga clad midgets. A continous loop of the first ten seconds of "Let's Go Crazy" (Dearly beloved we are gathered today to get through this thing called life... over and over) twenty-two 80inch plasma screens showing Prince's left eyeball looking directly at YOU, and a all you can eat pancake buffet.
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharrris,

PRINCE is the MAN. He is a TRUE artist. In a class all by himself. I have loved him since his first album. Growing up, my bedroom walls were covered with posters of him, his band & the Time (loved me some Morris Day, also). I even had "DMSR" spray painted on the door of my closet!

My favorite album by him - Dirty Mind (Uptown was the shiznet!!!)

My sister and her then boyfriend (now husband) took me to a concert (Purple Rain Tour) in DC to see him. I almost lost my mind!!!!

Then some years later, I finally got the chance to be in the position to meet him, on a video shoot. My friend, Big Coco, at the time, was a full-time bodyguard for the entourage. Never got the chance to get up close, but I was close enough. Just being int he same vicinity was alright with me! I will remember that day for as long as I live.

Living in LA definitely has some benefits. Even though, out here, you see "STARZ" all the time, I am still awe struck! Sure wish I could have been at Tower....dang!
Where is the LOVE?
