I just went back and reread Richard's bio on this site and damn, the man simply never compromised himself. At all. I was really humbled and inspired to see what he accomplished against some fucked up odds. I admire and aspire those who reamin open to open to learning and changing and growing as a person, something Richard Pryor has done and done well. Thank you, Jennifer, for this site and for Richard's bio.

I read it just before I gave an interview about a medical problem thousands of people, including me, have, but little is known about. We're fighting for awareness and research. Friends have died because not enough is known and I had a chance to speak out. I had very little notice and was nervous, but Richard inspired me to hit the right note. I didn't apologize, I didn't try to sugar coat, I just spoke from my heart, with a great man as my guide.

When I was growing up in the 1960s and 1970s, Richard was a voice who brought into my white middle class house (thanks also to my parents who didn't believe in censoring anything) issues and ideas you didn't hear many places. He started some lively discussions in my household without knowing it.

And, oh, yeah. He made us all laugh like fools for decades.

Love you, Richard. Love you, Jennifer.
