IS THERE ANY GOOD COMEDY TODAY?

What does Richard think about comedians today? Martin Lawrence, Wayans Clan, Comic View etc..I think the only one representing is Chris Rock.

Just a few folks who tickle me, in no particular order:

MARGARET CHO owns me!

George Carlin (OMG- ruthless)

Dane Cook (outta control)

Wanda Sykes (sass + class)

Tenacious D (the definitive muso geeks)

Laura Kightlinger has become an accomplished writer for Will & Grace (I love her cameo bits as a slatternly nurse)

Cedric the Entertainer, Dave Chappelle, Denis Leary, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Dave Attell, etc.

smjmcomic,

Cedric's beer commercials are cool, but his show just fell flat. I think one of the problems with comedy today is that there is just too much, so it's spread too thin. 30 ears ago, if shit came out that was funny, it was usually pretty consistant because there were several good writers. Even the shit that got cut was good (sometimes better than the released stuff) Now, the shit that gets aired is like taking all the good writers and giving them each thei own show, then they get surrounded by idiots and the product suffers. It's like watered down beer...

JTF,

The biggest problem with comedy today is PARODY!

When I do open mics I can not tell most of the other comics apart cuz they all tell the same jokes.

There are good comics out there you just have to sift through the trash!

I dont know why people always leave out Henry Rollins when talking about great comedians. I know he usually plays music venues and usually calls what he does Spoken Word, but the guy's intense and honest and he's as anti-Bush and anti-stupidity as they come.
