I remember being in the 8th grade and getting "That Nigger's Crazy" on tape. My father, a pretty corporate man sat and listened to the tape with me. After we listened to both sides, all he said was "Don't play that when Nana's around."
Now, I am 35 years old and have started listening to Richard's stuff again. What I didn't understand when I was young, I get now. I knew he was popular and whatnot but I couldn't understand the genius aspect.
I get it now. He was/is a master performer and one of the most important comedic minds of the 20th/21st century. We are talking and thinking about the things he brought up years ago because of him.
The world is a richer place because of him. He is an American Saint in the making.
