chelcie3,
Just wanted to say that I realize people have their own opinion about black urban comedy, but just imagine if we did not have it. Who would be around to really tell about the black experience. You guys are here on Richard Pryors website and if anybody told it like it was about black people and niggas...baby it was Richard Pryor. So don,t go puttin down the people who are trying to keep urban comedy alive. How else will we laugh at ourselves and the never changing stupid things that black people do.

Re: Urban comedy
Jennifer,
Thanks. I'm glad. I would in no way put down what Richard and so many before him, gave to this artform. My issue is with so many black comedians out there...who's going to carry the torch to the future? I asked a comedian here in Atlanta who he thought it would be and he really couldn't say. I wonder if it's because on the times we are in where everybody wants to be the same. White, Asian, and Latino people are are rapping and doing it well. There's so little left for black people to have that's unique to us. I personally take offense when I see a white woman with cornrows in her hair. That's what I feel was special about urban comedy from vaudeville to the 80's is that it was OUR perspective. And cat's like Richard, Flip and Cosby painted these wonderful pictures of us. Even when the pictures hurt a little. (I.E nigger) I dunno...I see us shuckin and jivin every time I turn to Comicview. And there we and everybody else is just eating it up thinking thats who we are now. I'm just tired of these cats getting on stage talking about booties and bullshit. That's why I would rather do something special with my comedy and be interesting. I want people to remember what I said and realize what I had to say. Dave Chappelle is aimed in the right direction but the business is obviously eating away at him. I just hope he realizes that we as his fans don't hold him responsible for keeping his show on or fresh. Just keep it real...intelligent that is. Feel ree to tell I'm full of it...I can take it.

Re: Urban comedy
amp-d,
Yeah the Taco rocks. I haven't had a chance to go back in a while but thats an example of how a little room can blow up when it's marketed right.
I wouldn't exactly call it a "urban" room but they try. If you want a real experience try the Star Bar in Little Five Points on Monday nights.
