Mr. Pryor,
To have the chance to finally communicate what u have meant to me and my father has me overwhelmed. I am crying as I write this. My father Jerry L. Wilson was a brilliant, strong black man who never was able to personally overcome the obstacles in the american system and share his gifts with the world on a large scale before passing away from cancer, suddenly in August 2002. He was a genius who, like many other brothers and sisters, loved and fought for his people's dignity and freedom unrecognized by any media, and he taught me to do the same. He was not a refined, college man, he educated himself the hard way with dictionaries and books. You Richard, along with Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Huey P. Newton and a few others were his greatest hero. Through you he felt his voice was heard, and he felt all the faceless brothas off the block had a representative who said what they burned to say but had no forum! He would point to you all and say to me "those are MEN son! They have the courage to risk their own comfort to say and do what is right for others." Because of my father and you sir I grew up never holding my head down and proud! Never feeling inferior! And you never sold us out to this day! Well I just want to finally, personally thank you Mr. Pryor. It was always my father's dream to meet you and do this and I'm able to carry his wish out. And I want to tell you that I'm a 34 year old African-American man who is ready to carry on the legacy of both of you! I am one of the new warriors ready to carry on the fight for what is right for our people and all people! Thank you Richard for blessing all of us in this world with your presence. And you can believe I'm one of the people out here lettin' muthafuckas know that the greatest ain't dead yet! I love you man.
