Richard is my hero

I just finished watching the newly released "Richard Pryor Show" on DVD. I remember watching this on TV as a kid and how funny it was, but watching it now, as a 30 year old man, I feel more than just euphoric laughter-- I feel the warmth of a comedy genius. As I grow older, the comedy gets funnier. I understand it more-- when I was a kid, it was the forbidden joy of hearing someone say "muthafucka" and watching his face and body contort into anything he wished; now, I see that there is truth, wisdom, and experience behind it all. Most comics pose, but not you.

sexmcginty, that DVD is what led me to this site! I just finished watching it tonight. I'm 35, but I don't remember that show at all when it came out (I was probably in bed by then). It was way ahead of it's time! He must have had those censors sweating bullets back then!

I was surprised to see then-young comics like Marsha Warfield, Robin Williams, John Witherspoon, Sandra Bernhard...and quite a few others. I see why David Chappelle has Paul Mooney on his show...the Pryor influence on his act is obvious!

I do remember the albums my mom used to have like "Bicentennial Nigger" and the one with Patty Hearst on the cover....we used to sneak and listen to the records when my parents were at work. He was wild! I love him...and he is my favorite comic of all time!
