dumbass JTF,
Neither just different. And I am talking the underlying things aouut racism that one would take for granted or not really be aware b/c they are from a certain region.
Here is one of the examples:She had an ethics professor use the term "black as coal" to describe a black person in a lecture were the professor was telling the class how racially unbiased she was.My friend felt offended by the use of the term but of the few other blacks that were in the class she was the only one to be offended.I asked her where the other blacks were from and she stated that they were also from other parts of S.C. and we came to the conclusion that saying "black as coal" must be more accepted in that region but if said up here in Tennessee it could be fighting words.
Plus she described it as a more "Gone with the Wind"ish,Old South feel.Southern Belles. It's close to Savannah, too. They have alot of old plantations around the area also. It's just a different taste of the south.
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
I'd never use the term "black as coal." Because I find it racist? Naaa. Because I would never think of coal. That's the shit I put on the grill to cook my ribs!
I did see an episode of Homicide where Yaphet Kotto was wearing a black leather jacket though. I'll be damned if the jacket wasn't lighter! The blackest cat I ever saw was in Jamaica though. It hurt to look at him. The sun was bright as hell, and he was so dark it was like looking at night surrounded by the bright ass sun. It was like your eyes would dialate just looking at him and everything else got brighter!
Oh, my return trip should be a blast. I'm going to alaska the longest way the airlines will allow. I'll leave early morning sunday (5 am) and won't get to my final destination of fairbanks until late monday. Fun indeed. And hitting that open mic...part of my reasons for being so anxious to leave deutschland!!!
Dumbass,
No they don't have comedy central. Part of my sanity has been lost because of it.
Bingo,
I'm heading to a home of sorts. My dad lives there, so that's home, right? Four years of freaky weather and fun--alaska!
And if I don't post anything until then, have a pleasant weekend everyone!
