Struggles of performing...

Post by jane_haze »

Oh yay. I volunteered a few months ago to perform a little made up, funny skit with a few of my exchange program friends for the German Ambassador, Daniel R. Coats.

I'm doing my homework on him now and found out this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dy ... ge=printer - Source'

[/i]Coats's voting record as among the most conservative in the Senate, on a par with those of Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) and Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.). [/i]

and

[/i]"has been, and is, one of the fiercest opponents of women's rights in general, and specifically a woman's right to choose." [/i]

and he was a candidate for Rumsfeld's current job. I don't like this guy already...and now I really wanna do something political for him...not *his* type of politics.

Damn white rich guy again...

I guess I'll have to do what I have to do and hold my tongue, right?

Jane

jane_haze,
Go with your Gut. Remember its never the wrong time to be true to you. It may turn out controversial but at least you can sleep with a clear conscience. I say give it to him raw, in the name good comedic artistry. Let him have it. It would be interesting to know if hes defensive or if he can laugh at himself.

Tifah,

his hobbies include "singing in the church choir"...I can throw something in there about his fucked up politics...and if he says anything, or someone else says something, I could always say in the spirit of Bill Hicks, if you're such a christian, than forgive me.

Alright, I'm SOOO throwing in some jokes and lefty politcs in our skit. Mwahahahahahaha!!! ]:o)

(BTW if this seems too grand and possibly like I'm lying...I'm not. This is the cool part of being on a Congressional scholarship exchange program.)

Thanks!
Jane

jane_haze,
Okay, I was laughing so hard!... Your phrasing was really funny and I love the bit about forgiveness. Also, I think Astonomous is right , but then what else is new. Shes like the sites 'fairy godmother', keeping us afloat on the real stuff. :-x ):)

I couldn't do it. Throw vitriolic, vicious jokes in there. When we were writing the thing, all my possibly offensive jokes were thrown out. b.b I hate writing with other people--all of your personal artistic freedom is denied.

Although, we performed with for the guy at his house and had the attention of the [/i]whole[/i] crowd. It was a great experience. Then, afterwards the ambassadors wife came up to us and shook our hands and said we had definitely had a future in comedy. It's always good for some support.

Oh well, stage time was the important thing, right?
