I have been away for awhile but I am back. This is what happens when you are focused on trying to get the word out about a new room. But it is worth it. We have had heaps of learning curves. The main lesson learned: Don't expect everyone to be as professional as you are.
We had three mc's over five weeks and only one did ok. Out of the other two, one mc totally didn't respect my husband's wishes for us not to have a break in the middle of the show so I had to bring up the energy after a ten minute break so no one got into my act until more than half way because it was like starting all over again. The other mc had three of the five nights to perform and he got worse on each one. The last one he got drunk and tried to out do a heckler to the point of the "I know you are but what am I" stage. My husband was blowing smoke out of his ears. It got to the point where I said, "Hey baby get some jokes off the internet and you be the mc instead of these idiots." The worst part is that we paid these idiots UGH :X But I have learned my lesson. We now only ask really keen comics who are just happy for the stage time while we are building up the room. I also only ask comics to mc who actually know how to warm up and treat a crowd. Imagine having only eight people in a crowd and calling them mother fuckers for no apparant reason but to call them mother fuckers. I can't believe it. Maybe it is my training in McDonalds but aren't you trying to make sure that the people have funs so that they will come back and if they don't come back at least tell their friends to check it out? Well these guys have missed this somewhere. We finally had a good Friday night with the mc doing the right thing and three other comics doing great jobs so by the time I got up to do my thirty minutes it was a cake walk. The crowd was awesome and we had a great time.
Hopefully we can get some traction now, Lord knows we need and deserve it. I hope all is going great with all you Pryor fans and keep up the great posts it is good to know there are some serious comic folks out there and not more fools who talk a good talk but can't deliver the goods on stage. ;p
