koda,

omg. I hope power is restored ASAFP. and I sure hope FEMA is *not* involved as that will guarantee reliable help and resources.

tamra,
Yep guess what? FEMA just got here. There are 56,000 places, (dwellings, homes, businesses) and way more in people numbers, still without power ...and in some areas there will be a temporary fix, if that, but nothing concrete until next spring.
It pisses me off...this is SD, it ALWAYS gets blizzards and bitter cold every single winter and always will. Why is this region not more prepared for this fact of life? I'm blown away by the fact that so many country dwellers don't even equip themselves with woodstoves or generators.
A few years ago, my relatives out on a ranch lost their power for 8 days but they were at least prepared! They had a wood stove, a gas stove and lanterns. They camped out in the kitchen and made do. They've lived here long enough to realize do it or die. Others weren't as fortunate.
Things are looking pretty grim for a lotta South Dakotans right now...I wonder how many won't even be able to get back into their homes in time for the holidays. It's very sad, not to mention pathetic. Making do in overcrowded and cramped shelters is not only uncomfortable but a hotbed for illness to spread.
I hope you'll all keep praying for our state.
Thanks!
Love
Koda

koda,
Damn , I wouldn't wish F.E.M.A. on anybody, I hope you and
yours are equipted to cope. If you been living there all your life ,I'm sure you have a plan .
Only suggestion I can make is BODY HEAT can be multiplied , with another warm body, :) '
So snuggle Eskimo style.. :)
And be sure to stay hydrated.

koda,

that's pretty jacked up. what did they think you guys would do in the freezing cold? and I noticed nothing on the news about the situation.

maybe we should make a new rule: you lose your home to a natural disaster and if help isn't available immediately, you can stay at the white house and surrounding buildings until your home is restored

You should probably stay alert when bcddjjsc690 starts suggesting multiplying body heat and stuff...
