Theres an old saying in comedy that a comic works better when he's totaly missrable I seem to do better when I happy than when I'm not.
When things are not well the comedy just seems to fallow suit well for me that is.
Comics do you thrive on being missrable?

smjmcomic, I don't think I thrive on being miserable, but I think I do thrive on the chaotic and lack of routines..

smjmcomic,
Not to break up the laughing emoti fest, but going back to the question asked:
Going on stagewise- I think I do better when I get pissed off on stage. The times I've lived in angerville and am totally pretentious, I seem to enjoy that more. ...but I have to typically be happy and in a mostly energetic mood before hand.
Writing wise -- I've found that when I'm totally happy and life's great and things are wonderful... it's harder for me to write. I believe Patton Oswalt had a joke about you can't make jokes about being in love, or something; sorta same idea.
...I hope I don't purposely cause trouble in my own life just to write...that doesn't seem healty.

jane_haze,
I once had a conversation with a friend of mine who is a comedian. We deliberated over "the curse of the artist", meaning that the most amazing artists that we could cite were plagued with unhappiness, yet it brought out of them amazing material.
Whether it was the desire to overcome the depression that created the greatness, or the desire to create greatness that caused the depression was the painful question at hand. Either way, writing is never an easy thing.
Peace gee

jane_haze,
Yes my dear, we'll get back to the topic;p
Since I do not actually go ON stage, I do not how I would re-act as I am not a paid comedian.
But when I am on the STAGE of life, I am my best when I am HIGH AS A KITE on some weed, straight trippin'. Everybody be laughin at me then
I am just joking, I don't smke weed. I hope no one at my job sees this!
