Variety/Sketch Comedy Shows

Hey Jennifer,
Once again, let me apologize for that previous post. I don't know why it was brought up again.
Anyway, I just saw some episodes of the Richard Pryor Show at my cousin's house.
The episodes are very, very funny, but there were only 4 episodes made. Why is that?
I wasn't born in the 70's, so I don't know what was exceptable on television. But with shows like 'All in the Family' and 'Saturday Night Live' having controversal topics and adult themes, how come 'The Richard Pryor Show' was cancelled before it could get off the ground?
In my opinion, this show was more ground breaking than 'Saturday Night Live', and it paved the way for shows like, 'Mad TV', 'Martin', 'In Living Color', 'Chris Rock', and 'Dave Chappelle' Show.
No disrespect to Flip Wilson, but his show was more mainstream oriented.
