I Am the Lucky One

I have lived in a glorious era.
Being from the Boston area, I have seen so many wondrous things.
I was alive to see the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show.
I snuck up to a roof of a house in Revere and saw the Beatles perform at Suffolk Downs racetrack.
I saw Bobby Orr play for the Boston Bruins.
I saw Bill Russell and Larry Bird and so many others play for the Celtics.
I saw the Red Sox finally win the World Series.
I have witnessed The Patriots win the Super Bowl three out of the last four years.
I have heard and seen Richard Pryor do his thing.
Now, the things I listed above are very important to me, and I’m sure you all have your favorites too.
But this is my point.
If Bobby Orr never played hockey and Bird and Russell were midgets and the Beatles stayed the Quarry Men and the Red Sox and the Patriots were cellar dwellers, it really wouldn’t be that important.
But can anyone imagine a world without Richard Pryor?
I can’t.
Thanks Richard, for being on the earth the same time as me.
Stay strong!
