Foreign Perception

I've always wondered what non-english speaking foreign audiences think of our stand up comedians and the art form as a whole. What does, let's say, Japan think of Mr. Pryor? Are they even aware of or exposed to his standup? Also, is standup comedy popular there at all? It pains me to think that they may only know Mr. Pryor for his narrative films. Same thing goes for every great english speaking comic.
