I've realized anyone can write reverses, literals, double entendres, ect.., but a true comic tells a story and the humor is there in ever form. A fun is punny? Who are these comics who tell observational, 1 liners, yada yada, is this their comedic voice?

misplacedfate,
I feel the same way... To each their own of course. For instance, I see Mr. Pryor as a storyteller first, always have and always will, and a stand-up comic second. A true performance artist... Right up my alley!

misplacedfate,
Yes story tellers are good. When it comes to live standup comedy though, my favourite comedians improv their whole sets (at least while open micing it). I think this is how a storyteller is born.

Ben Robinson,
My favourite comedians are those whom have tapped into a sense of humour that I share and can understand, whether they're 'storytellers', 'mimes', 'clowns', 'unintentionally funny overly earnest folk-reggae musicians' or 'guys who light their farts on fire at Just For Laughs'...OK actually, none of those just mentioned, save 'storytellers', are my favourite types of comics--but what I'm saying is that a 'best type of comedian' viewpoint is subjective. I do admire people who can get huge amounts of people to laugh at them without sacrificing their viewpoint and character.

NickFlanagan,
Mantras zeitgeist hubris, I think that's what you gotta do.
