All I know is I write only what makes me laugh, even if sometimes it doesn't make sense. Is that self-indulgent or 'the right path'? I love doing standup, but only because of the freedom it gives me to try anything. If that weren't there, I don't think I'd do it. It seems to me that the longer that you can operate without constraints, the better off your act can ultimately wind up. Does that make any sense?

NickFlanagan,
Comedy is comedy and there is a craft involved-writing is a good thing-if it makes you laugh that's a good thing-if it's about something that's a good thing!! Yeah-you make sense-
The right path? You'll have to talk to Mel Gibson about that! Lol-

Jennifer,
I don't think of it as a destruction, it's more of a hijacking. It's still there, we just gotta find a way to bring it back.

PS - on 123rd & 2nd in NYC there's an anti-KFC billboard that features Richard's head, nearly 4 stories tall. People have begun using it as a landmark -- MEET ME UNDERNEAT THE GIANT HEAD OF RICHARD PRYOR. First time someone said it to me, I damn near wrecked my car from laughing so much.

Jennifer, I don't think Mel is in a mood to talk to any more Jews these days, but if I see him I'll pursue the 'right path' topic. Thanks for the words--I'll keep writing.

Jennifer,
After reading this tread today, this was a great discussion. Jennifer, you do know comedy and comics very well, The way things have changed have gotten tough, your married to the one person that spawned a 3 generations of wannabee's (myself included). And your point of view, is something people should hold on to (myself included). Please tell me where i can by "tarnished Angel". and If you and the crew can get together how bout next monday at the Improv? Hopefully we'll get you a better line up. and I'll tell Corey you thought he was funny. Thanks again for coming down monday and showing some love; and especially for the heated discussion. You remind me of all the women in my family and in my life..( Strong, intelligent, and will speak the truth!) You go Gurl!

this is a wild thread with a lot of great points and great observations.
i dont know where to begin... and i could probably write 3-4 pages on stuff this made me think of... but i will be breif.
robbie... dont think your rules were over looked. i think that is wonderful advice, and i really heard what you had to say there. thank you much.
jennifer... its not robbies fault that there are a lot of lazy comics. although, i agree that it can be a bit disheartening at times.
