Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,
Would like to see Sly come out of his cave..Now I'll have a reason to watch the no-talent awards show.
OTHER REUNIONS:
Prince and The Revolution
Debarge
New Edition (With Bobby Brown)
Shalmar
The Time
Apollona and Vanity 6 (doubt that one)
and yes I'm saying it:
JACKSON 5

jermainebailey,
Being the huge Prince fan that I am, I can help you with some of these. The Time got back together in the early 90's and tour regularly, I seem to catch them at some event once every other year... unfortunately I'm such a Purple Rain geek I have the Times moves memorized and can't help myself when Morris says "Chili Sauce!!!" and make a nice slide across along with him and Jerome.
Prince and members of the Revolution still perform together the only one outside of the loop now is Brown Mark, supposedly "Dream Factory" on Crystal Ball is an all out diss of Mark. Prince and Wendy and Lisa are doing music together but haven't been able to work out show dates. BobbyZ and Mr. Fink never left the camp, so there is hope.
Of course you know Vanity 6 will never happen... Vanity is born again and has said some wild things about the purple one.
Bobby Brown and New Edition are planning an album and reunion tour for 2007 so that IS planned.
Shalamar did get back together and toured 3 years ago.
Any way hope that helps...
Agree with you, I think Sly could drop a number one hit right now. Loved that Prince had "The Family Stone" as his touring band off and on for the last 7 years.

Re: Please say it's so: Sly Returns!!!
Did Sly walk off the stage?
JAY-Z AND PAUL McCARTNEY SMASHING IT UP!!!!!!! Damn Hip Hop is alive!!!! I love the Beatles and Jay is my man... damn I'm swimming!! Great Grammy moment for me.
Kanye... is a "show stoppa"!!!
My running commentary on the Grammy's continues... NOT EVERYONE CAN SING "A SONG FOR YOU". This is one of my all time favorites... from the original by Leon Russell to Donny Hathaway to my favorite version by Dennis Edwards of the Temptations. Herbie Hancock did a wonderful arrangement, but I get sick of Christina Aguilera and her "runs" on every note. Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin are the King and Queen of "runs" and they would only pull them out seven-ten times an ALBUM. This chick does it 4-5 times a bar. I will now grab my headphones listen to Dennis Edwards and shut the fuck up.
Oh wait a minute CHUCK-D!!!!! I FEEL A RIOT COMING ON!!!

robfharris,
umm yep he sure did.
but he's just bad like that.
pretty cool to see the amount of talent on the stage performing his songs. esp. good to see Patrice Rushen. ain't seen her in a while. I can't remember the drummer's name, but damn that was classic. what music is all about, yanno -- real artists, real talent just doing the damn thang.

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
Re: Please say it's so: Sly Returns!!!
bingolong,
I know huh? like catch my black ass when you can. see ya.
but yes rob, that was incredibly awesome.
but sad to say 2 memorials have been missed 2 years in a row: (ok, this is old school stuff kiddies) Keith Knudsen of the Doobie Brothers (how oh how could this one have been missed
)and Rod Price of Foghat. Knudsen died just a few days just before last year's grammys, and Price died about a month after. thought they'd be covered this year. same with Gene McFadden of McFadden & Whitehead who just died this week.

robfharris,
to me, Christina DID the damn thang.
that's why I don't like people comparing her to Britney or any of those other commercial pop girls.
some songs you should never touch unless you have talent. to touch a Donny Hathaway song and do it well. and that *was* talent to hold the notes and sing in tune w/Herbie, like scatting.
like some artists, please leave their songs alone if you can't sing: Deniece Williams (anything by her), but Taral Hicks worked Silly. and Gladys Knight. leave them alone.
Simply Red's Angel rendition of Aretha's was hot. he should still be performing w/those chops. same as Terrence Trent Darby.
and I love how the grammy tributes each year are getting better and better at honoring those who paved the way. last year's Joplin tribute was hot.

jermainebailey,
New Edition and Bobby Brown did reunite recently and I thought there was an upcoming tour and there's a new CD out. heard one song on satellite and it was hot.
