Why are they STILL making these disaster movies???

Why are they STILL making these disaster movies???

Post by dougdigitalpro »

I can't understand for the life of me why they are still making disaster films at this point of time. "The Day After Tomorrow" is a film basically about the end of the world through natural disaster. In these violent, volatile times, why would Hollywood allow a film like this to be released? Are they that insensitive to our times just to make a buck? I'm not even going to see it because after watching 9/11 go down, there is no disaster film that can even come close to the horror i saw that day. Nor am I interested in seeing anything coming close to that horror. I'm still reeling over that and now they expect me to plop down $8.00 to sit down and watch the end of the world for two hours? I think it's in poor taste and sick and very telling of how numb the American public truly has become. Do we stand for anything anymore?
And this goddamn french filmaker who made this bullshit needs his ass deported back to France. They hate us anyway, so it makes sense that he keeps making these propaganda movies on the destruction of the world at America's hands.
Damn, Hollywood didn't learn anything from that Godzilla shit he made?
I hope this movie flops, but it probably won't becuase we have become the lambs being led to slaughter. ]:o(

dougdigitalpro,

It's cuz it my be the one film out there I will even consider paying my $10 to go see. That is until the Segal Malcolm X flick comes out...

Seriously, it it strange how different the scars of people outside of NYC differ from those who were here. My sis told me that she couldn't stop crying on Sept. 11, 2001. Here in the city we didn't have time for tears for weeks afterwards. I didn't lose it until I heard the story of the Port Authority police dog who was locked in a cage in the basement. The dog's partner openly sobbing with a picture of him got to me. The only other thing was an open letter written by a child that simply said "I'm sorry the buildings fell down."

billyb0y,
It wasn't bad actually. It had some points that seem plausible, but then they would mess it up by including points that weakened their plot.(They had a good explanation about why the northern hemisphere was going to be part of an Ice Age,but then it felt like they threw LA in there just to make the movie more commercial)
Anyway I kind of see what Doug is getting at b/c it was definitely made to be a blockbuster but in the end it wasn't about the total end of the world.Mexico took us in......

bingolong,
It's just when I saw the trailer and saw that frozen Statue of Liberty and then saw buildings in LA just blown to shit, it really just brought back all that emotion from 9/11. And It's not like I'm stuffy about movies or anything, but it just bothered me seeing that kind of destruction again. I'm really at a point where I don't get any thrills anymore seeing people killed and maimed all in the name of good entertainment. My movie has violence in it, but there is a significant point in why it's there and I don't even show anything. It's offscreen. People wanted me to show it too and I stuck to my guns (no pun intended)because I didn't see the point in it. Just showing violence for violence's sake. I mean, after seeing that shit go down for real, it just took the fun out of it for me. And now with this war, I think it's just bad timing.

dougdigitalpro,
I am a big movie buff myself now so come summer I'm just seeing whatever the hot property is [/i]for the week[/i].... b.b
But another reason I am like this is b/c I do music stuff so much that I need another form of escape ya know? The way you are about the movie industry is the same way I am about the music industry; I am still a fan but I see alot of what goes on from a different perspective that the general public won't b/c I'm trying to do this. Sometimes take the escapism and joy out of some of it.What do you think?

bingolong,
Yeah, sometimes working behind the scenes defintely takes the joy out of just sitting and watching a film as an audience member, especially after my last experience. That damn near made me not want to do it anymore. @.@ But, I'm also a stickler when it comes to bullshit films and maybe this a good film but in the context of the current climate, I'm just not ready to watch the Columbia Records building go up in flames, ya' know? I would think people would still be touchy about it, but I guess not.
