Need help feeding the stranded horses

Post by Jennifer »

Hi Friends,

Our little Red Horse team here in Virginia has started a project working with Laughing Horse Sanctuary, Habitat for Horses and other groups to help some of the horses stranded in the hurricane areas. I am told we now have a helicopter available but they need condensed feeds (alfalfa cubes or pellets) rather than hay. We have volunteer transport available as well.

I have gotten our local mill to offer to sell us a truck load of alfalfa pellets (22 tons) at their cost. The pick up would be in northern Alabama, so it will be quick to get into the hands of the rescuers. The cost will be $6,500 for an entire load, so we need to know how much money we can raise so we know if we have to go for a partial load. All donations would be sent to Laughing Horse so that we could send a single check from there straight to the mill. 100% of the donations will be used to buy the feed. I would also encourage donations to Habitat for Horses as they are very involved in this rescue.

We need to know if you can help and at what level, but are not asking for money yet. The donations will be fully tax deductible.

If you can help, please let me know at:
