blumustard,

hey thanks for posting this. I finally got to check it out a few minutes ago. the audience was definitely have a good time and I can see why.

and I think I know why Sly is so reclusive. he's living out in wine country smoking the good shit with the good wine. he don't have to do nothing except enjoy his days. :) ):)

I've been wondering about this! Glad to see it went well. That was much better than the last time I saw him. You know how some people play fantasy football? Well if I could have a fantasy concert it would have been to see Sly when he was at his best, Prince, Rick James, and James Brown all on the same stage. Oh hell, if I am going to have a fantasy concert I might as well add The Isley Brothers, the Ohio Players, the Bar-Kays, Rufus, and the orginal Temptations, The Four Tops.

That reminds me of that song Soul Heaven

"Last night I dreamed I was in a concert
So many people you had to stand in line
One night only in Soul Heaven
I didn't want to wake up I was having such a good time

All of the Bar-keys were tuning up on stage
Jimi had his guitar getting ready to play
Sam was singing A Change Gonna Come
Otis was there Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay

There was a party in Soul Heaven
Superstars from the past
Standing room only so you better hurry
Buy your ticket, cause there going fast

Train & Miles took a mean solo
Junior Walker had them dancing in the aisles
They stood up when Jackie sang Lonely Teardrops
When Sammy danced the crowd went wild
(Mr. Bojangles)

I thought I saw Ella standing with Mahalia
Backstage was Elvis with his Blue Suede Shoes
It started raining everybody just stayed there
To hear Z.Z. sing the Down Home Blues

Well now, there's a party
In Soul Heaven
Superstars from the past
Standing room only
so you better hurry
Buy your ticket, Cause there going fast

There's a party in Soul Heaven
Superstars from the past

The great Al Jackson was a holding down the beat
When Marvin sang "Let's Get It On", they jumped to their feet
Everyone started screaming and gave a standing ovation
When the curtain came up with the mighty Temptations
King Curtis blew the "Soul Serenade"
Thought I saw Lady Day sittin' in the shade
I got two lovers and I ain't ashamed
Lord I love the way sweet Mary sings
It was getting kinda late, it was time to go
Tupac and Biggie, they closed the show

I didn't wanna wake up, I was having such a good time
I didn't wanna wake up, I was having such a good time
Pearl Bailey, she was there
Duke and Count, they were there
Donnie Hathaway , I saw him there
Dizzie and Satchmo, I saw 'em there
It was a party in Soul Heaven
You shoulda been there
Everyone was having such a good time
I didn't want to wake up I was havin' such a good time"

Anyway, I always thought Sly had such cool lyrics...
"Sometimes I'm right, but I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the baker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in

I am everyday people
Yeah, yeah

There is a blue one who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one trying to be a skinny one
Different strokes for different folks
And so on, and so on and scooby-dooby-doo"

Thanks for posting the follow up! :) I never get tired of listening to those songs! Boom laka-laka-laka Boom!

KMommy,

wow, I got a BB King news mailing and wondered if it was real, 8-o but Sly will be performing Dec. 7th at BB Kings' Blues Club in NYC on Dec 7.

More information: http://www.bbkingblues.com/schedule/mor ... gi?id=4222 - bbkingblues.com'

somehow I think the arena for this needs to be BIGGERRRRR, because tix will go quickly.
