Superman III and the Power of Richard Pryor!!
On my trip overseas I went ahead and copped Superman 3 on DVD.After watching the movie I realized Richard Pryor is the only villian in history to be set free by the superhero!! Superman even gave him a job reference!!
I mean yeah he was manipulated by the Robert Vaughn character. But for giving me some Kryptonite that had me horny all the time and drunk,I'm sorry Rich but Gus Gorman's ass would have had to do house arrest or some shit!!
OK he did save Superman's life!!"RIGHT ON BROTHA"

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

bingolong,
I remember I saw "Superman 3" at the Adams theatre here in Detroit back in 1984-85. And I remember just being kinda baffled at how these two ended up in the same movie. I am a huge fan of the first Superman movie and I'm an even bigger fan of Richard Pryor's. And I always kept held them apart. They were two completely different worlds coming together on screen. It was a mega coup for Richard to take the role and if I'm not mistaken I think it made him the richest black celebrity of the time. It was just weird watching them on screen together. I don't think I wanted my Pryor and Superman on the same plate. Kinda like eating scrambled eggs with ice cream, ya' know? There both good as all get out, but seperately. I haven't seen that film in ages, I'll have to rent again soon and see if it still holds up. I'll tell you this: If Richard Donner would've directed it, it would've been a really great film. Like the first one was.
I was probably more happy to just see Rich back in action after being away so long from his accident.

dougdigitalpro,
All jokes aside Rich really made that movie!!
But there was something else I wondered about.I noticed that Lois Lane (former Richard Pryor flame Margot Kidder)was only briefly in the movie. Was it because of Kidder's and Rich's fling together or just so the film maker's could make room for the Lana Lang character???
I have really analyzed this movie ain't I ?!

bingolong,
Yeah, he made it good because it wasn't a very good premise anyway. That's probably why they went after him in the first place. You take Rich out the equation and you have a real turkey of a story. But like I said, the Superman franchise had been declining since the first one anyway, so i wasn't really suprised when I saw pt. 3.
I thought the Margot-Rich affair started on that film and carried over into "Some Kind of Hero".
I'd ask Jen, but I don't want to piss her off.
(just kidding, Jen!)
Now, you want to see Rich at his dramatic best, this is one to check out. That was a film I didn't get into too much as a kid but as a got older and learning about how life is, it became much more relavant and with each viewing, became better. Love that flick!
Man, they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Re: Superman III and the Power of Richard Pryor!!
bingolong, it was neither, regarding Margot Kidder. From what I understand, Kidder was having problems with the producers, so her role was written smaller.

dougdigitalpro,
I won't be pissed!He didn't marry her did he?He didn't marry her twice! lolol
The affair began on SOme Kind of Hero-Richard and I were back and forth at that point.SUperman3-it was a question of drugs!!!Margot was a bit out of control-so was RP.
she is doing great now and we see her every now and then; she comes and visits when she is in town! She is living in Montana, trying to make a living.Still acting in films and TV.

Jennifer,
lol! Yeah, you're right. He didn't marry her. That's interesting that she was on drugs way back then. I'm glad to hear she's doing well now, though.
Question: How did Mr. P get along with Chris Reeve? Did they develop any kind of friendship during the course of the film or was Mr. P tripping on him. That was an odd pairing if ever there was one.
Oh, those heady 80's!

dumbass,
Flat out correct, dumbass! (ain't that an oxy-moron?) lol.
Anyway, yeah it had no Lex Luthor in it and Robert Vaughn is NO Gene Hackman. I guess that would've cost a pretty penny though putting all that talent in one room!
I heard they had to shell out the farm just to get Mr. P on board.

dougdigitalpro,
Also I've got to disagree with you,Superman 2 is the better movie of the four due to the action, sex (Clark Kent gets him some!!),the archvillians(Lex Luthor, General Zod and crew) and it's connection to part one. It's the "Empire Strikes Back" of the series!!
