Re: Addicted to Pryor?
dougdigitalpro,
Hey man if petitioning those outta touch fucks at the Academy Awards will get Mr. Pryor the awards he's SOOOO deserving of, count me in
But I gotta say Steven ever since I found out how they completely ignored Al Pacino's performance as Tony Montana in [/i]Scarface[/i] I have NO faith in the FUCKS!!!
I don't think they'd recognize a stellar performance if it smacked em upside the head:X

SweetLuchia,
Probably wouldn't.
Damn, girl. You're a fan of Scarface too!?
Luchia, will you marry me?
That's another one I love to no end. I have a gigantic framed poster of Scarface in my living room where he's getting ready to exact revenge on Frank & Mel.
Mel: "You can't shoot a cop!"
Scarface: "Whoever said you was one!?"
Classic!
The thing cost me almost $200.00 but I had to have it.
Did you go see the re-release when they put it back in theatres a few months ago? That was the most fun I had at the movies in twenty years! The house was packed and everybody was quoting lines out loud. Great! The new DVD is sweet too!

SweetLuchia,
You speak the gospel, girl!
That's why I gotta get in there and do my thing. We gotta get back to good old fashioned storytelling. I think digital cinema will free up a lot of that but it's also hindering alot of it because they soooo overuse CGI in EVERYTHING. The only person who does it well is my main man George and it's NECESSARY for his type of film and he does it CORRECTLY! A lot of those bums in Hollywood use it and are lazy with it and all the shit looks fake and contrived.
It is a sad time in moviemaking but also an exciting time because SOMEBODY is going to have a major breakthrough one day with these digital cameras. "Blair Witch" kinda tapped into it but didn't go far enough. It maybe me or somebody else, but somebody has got to come along with something original and FAST!
Yeah, I know the photo you're speaking of. I love gangster movies. All of 'em!
I'm gonna try to send off a copy of my film to Jen and Mr. P and get their critique on it(which is gonna be an honor), maybe I can send you one also.
It's called "7 Years & Six Months" and it's about a family & marriage in crisis that ends tragically.
It's a good moral tale on what NOT to do.
Gotta promote and network!

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

dougdigitalpro,
that's why UNDERWORLD was so brilliant, the wolves and vampires were real. The making of doc on the DVD was great, they were wearing these huge suits and walking on stilts to make it look real. I still love AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, even if by today's standards the FX were shit, there is something magical about watching a real man contort like that... even if there is an ass load of makeup on him!

hubpluh and doug,
I saw "Van Helsing" last year, it was called "League Of Extraordinary Gentleman"!
Dr. Jeckyll looked the same fake in both movies.
And hubpluh know what you are talking about!!I feel like the older movies looked realer than the stuff they are doing now!! It suspended belief much better than the efx now!!!That's another reason you must eventually see the original Star Wars!!!!

Re: Addicted to Pryor?
dougdigitalpro,
I agree my man. I am an aspiring filmmaker myself. I wrote anovel that gined some attention and now I am currently adadpting it to script. I would probably be done by now but I spend all of my computer time on this site! The film I wanna make is low budget and cuts the special effects so I can get to the root and that is the story. The only special effect is going from doc-style film to film stock widescreen in some of the scenes. Studios today rely to heavily on the cgi and stray away from the art of storytelling.
