Finding your voice

Post by danithag »

Why is it so difficult finding your voice? As soon as I go up on the stage I start speaking differently in another way that's not me. Because of this I dont really like my own material. Its not me, it is more and idea of stand up and something feels wrong inside of me. I want to be up there and knowing it is me who is standing there. The true me, not some copy of Richard Pryor or any other comic I admire. Its so difficult breaking down the wall and finding your true self. Until that time I feel it almost doesnt matter what I write, or how good the joke is, before I have found my true humor and comedy.

How do you guys find it?

danithag,

Don't feel bad. This happens to everyone. Before you can "find your voice," you first have to feel comfortable onstage. That only comes with time. You'll get there. Keep at it...I'm rooting for you...
