Live and Let Live Farm News

PMU Mare and Foal Update –

· Next Load Delayed – Due to Arrive January 26 or 27th

· Your Help Needed – These Horses Must be Pre-Adopted

The fourth load of PMU mares and foals to arrive at Live and Let Live Farm has been delayed until the week of January 24th. It is expected that the horses will leave Canada on the 24th and arrive on the 26th or 27th, depending on weather conditions.

Please remember that those of you that have pre-adopted these mares, pregnant mares and foals are the rescuers and are making the difference in these animals lives. It is because of you that they are going to have a chance at a good life. Live and Let Live Farm is just the middle man, putting together adopters with horses that need homes. We want to thank each and every adopter for caring enough to make a difference in the lives of these horses.

There are several beautiful paint two year olds available in this load, along with five pregnant mares – some are draft crosses and some are quarter horses. Please spread the word about these needy horses needing homes.

To see what horses are available, go to the United Pegasus website www.unitedpegasus.com and click on Click Here to See Available Horses. Then click on Fourth Load going to New Hampshire. These horses are available for adoption.

If you are interested in adopting or sponsoring any of these horses, please contact Teresa Paradis, phone number 603-798-5615, , email info@liveandletlivefarm.org, address Live and Let Live Farm, 20 Paradise Lane, Chichester, NH 03258.

Premarin is a hormone for women, made from pregnant mares urine (PMU). Because of the negative publicity that hormone replacement therapy is getting, demand for Premarin has fallen. A shut down of PMU farms in Canada happened in August, and over 40,000 horses being presently used for this purpose are of no use to the farmers and were slated to be slaughtered.

Thanks to all of you, and your support, in 2004 we were able to save 88 mares, pregnant mares and foals from slaughter. See the Horses section of the website for their story and photos of their arrival. We still have one horse available for adoption from the last load. Her name is Cindy, she’s a grey, 14 year old pregnant mare. Email Teresa at info@liveandletlivefarm.org if you are interested in adopting her

PMU Mare and Foal Pick up

The tentative shipping date for Load #5 of PMU mares and foals to come to Live and Let Live Farm is Thursday, January 26th or 27th , 2005, late morning.

If you are adopting a foal, mare or from the Farm, please bring halters, lead ropes and a long lunge line (no chains please) as we need these to give the foals and horses plenty of roam when we are loading them.

You must have plenty of time and patience when you plan to pick up your new PMU horses. No one can be in a hurry, and a little patience will go a long way!

We all need to remember that these animals just came off a very long, scary trip. They have been crowded into a tractor trailer for days

If you have a choice of trailers to use, the best type is at least a four horse, stock trailer. These are more open, so it is easier for the horses to deal with them.

Everyone must finish paying the amount due for their adoption, and completely fill out their adoption paperwork before they can proceed with loading their PMU's to take them home.

Everyone is to park at the bottom of the driveway, in the turn around area on the road, until it is their turn to come and load. All the loads will be filled, there will be many horses arriving, and we can't crowd or overwhelm them. After your paperwork is complete, you will be shown where to drive to load your PMU horse when it is your turn to do so.

After 3 days of having your PMU horse on Live and Let Live Farm Property (the first three days are included in your adoption fee), you will be charged $10/day board until you pick up your PMU to bring them home. If, after 30 days, your PMU has not been claimed, or other arrangements made, Live and Let Live Farm will become the legal owner of your horse or foal and will over it up for adoption to other potential adopters.

Thank you everyone for your cooperation and for rescuing your new horse/foal and giving them a future.

Live and Let Live Farm Will Be Closed January 22, 2005 from 7am – 3pm
Please Note – Live and Let Live Farm will be closed on January 22, 2005 from 7am – 3pm. Only essential volunteers doing chores will be allowed to be at the Farm that day. The NH Trail Dawgs will be having their annual Snowmobile Poker Run that Day, and the Farm is a rest stop for the snowmobilers. Because there will be many, many snowmobilers going through the Farm on that day, it will be too dangerous to have any horses out. No one will be allowed to handle horses that day. Thanks in advance for understanding.

Jennifer,

I adopted a gorgeous PMU colt from Live and Let Live Farm and could not be happier with him! We also run a horse rescue here in Maine, Last Chance Ranch, and are working to save horses here in Maine and beyond. check out our website; http://lastchanceranchmaine.tripod.com . Donors can send donations to our program to support rescues and/or education programs as well as our youth program. Please always remember that rescues need the financial and moral suport of caring people like yourselves in order to save these beautiful animals. Thanks for all you do to help out!
