The Wackness

Post by tamra »

I really enjoyed this movie. the ads in the subways are what caught my attention months before its release. hip hop artists from the soundtrack are listed right along side the stars, one of which is Sir Ben Kingsley. and hip hop was definitely a character in the movie. some surprising good scenes centering around hip hop and their day to day lives.

definitely worth seeing when it makes it rounds across the country. right now, it's in limited release.

one scene, which I won't spoil, Ben Kingsley had the theater in hysterics.  but Kingsley was funny throughout.

tamra,
I saw Method Man plug this movie over the weekend since he is in it.
Thought it would suck because... well Method Man is in it.
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,

C'mon man, I was sure his role in Soul Plane would at least get him a best supporting actor nomination.

 yall are too funny

but Method Man only had a couple of small scenes. but the first scene w/Method was ironically mostly silent and centered around Notorious B.I.G.

heeyyyyy, I liked Soul Plane. that movie was robbed at the Oscars! :X  seriously, I did like it and laughed throughout movie, even @ the bathroom scene w/Tom Arnold which I usually don't laff @. :) it was just silly humor, like "Airplane!"

tamra,
Soul Plane compared to Airplane!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Young Boy with Coffee: Cream?
Little Girl: No, thank you, I take it black, like my men.

Joey: Wait a minute. I know you. You're Kareem Abdul-Jabar. You play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roger Murdock: I'm sorry son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I'm the co-pilot.
Joey: You are Kareem. I've seen you play. My dad's got season tickets.
Roger Murdock: I think you should go back to your seat now Joey. Right Clarence?
Captain Oveur: Nahhhhhh, he's not bothering anyone, let him stay here.
Roger Murdock: But just remember, my name is ROGER MURDOCK. I'm an airline pilot.
Joey: I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.
Roger Murdock:
The hell I don't. LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

AND THE ALL TIME CLASSIC!!!!!
Ted Striker: Surely there must be something you can do.
Rumack: I'm doing everything I can... and stop calling me Shirley.

The only quote I can remember related to Soul Plane is this chick asking a Bootleg video guy on the west side of Chicago for her "MOTHAFUCKIN' MONEY BACK!!"
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,

okay  when you put it that way, no comparison. I do remember a lot of lines from Airplane! and esp. the "always happy guy", the one who assisted Robert Stack.

OMG  and the talking jive scene. that shit was fucking hilarious!!

but I can't think of one line from Soul Plane, except when Snoop was talking about his airplane flying skills w/his resume. "no I wrote, Sadaam eat a dick".

wait, I do remember the Popeye's scene in Low Class - take 1 piece and pass it back!

basically, it was just some ghetto humor and I could easily see quite a few folks in New York in that same situation, but serious 8-o

robfharris,

I always forget how incredible that movie is until it comes on occasionally.
