Tamara Dobson - R.I.P.

Richard loved going to the movies...
So do we. Who doesn't like music?

Tamara Dobson - R.I.P.

Post by tamra »

this beautiful woman used to be my Barbie doll. Matel's Barbie was ok, but Tamara Dobson/Cleopatra Jones was the diva of all divas, and can whup your ass too!

didn't know she was sick, or living in NYC.

[font size=3 face=v color=Blue]'Cleopatra Jones' actress dead

POSTED: 7:57 a.m. EDT, October 5, 2006

BALTIMORE, Maryland (AP) -- Tamara Dobson, the tall, stunning model-turned-actress who portrayed a strong female role as Cleopatra Jones in two "blaxploitation" films, has died.

Dobson, 59, died Monday of complications from pneumonia and multiple sclerosis at the Keswick Multi-Care Center, where she had lived for the past two years, her publicist said.

At 6 feet, 2 inches tall, Dobson was striking as the kung-fu fighting government agent Cleopatra Jones (see poster - http://www.movieposter.com/poster/A70-9 ... Jones.html - here') in 1973. She reprised the role in 1975's "Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold."

"She was not afraid to start a trend," said her brother, Peter Dobson, of Houston. "She designed a lot of the clothing that so many women emulated."

Dobson also appeared in "Come Back, Charleston Blue," "Norman, Is That You?" "Murder at the World Series" and "Chained Heat."

She had TV roles in the early 1980s in "Jason of Star Command" and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century."

Dobson lived most of her adult life in New York, her family said. She was diagnosed six years ago with multiple sclerosis.

I loved her strong black feminine presense on the screen. May God bless her soul and grant her peace and paradise.

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

chevyt454,

Cleo is on the late movie here in NYC. They just had the part where the two boys see her and one says [/i]She is BAD![/i] and the other boy says [/i]Bad ain't got nothin' to do with that. RIGHT ON SWEET SOUL SISTER![/i]

That fit Ms. Dobson so well...

It also made me think about the difference in what kids would say today. Back then, I would have been a kid comin' out the theatre and saying to girls "Right on sweet soul sister!" (So it would have looked funny from the little skinny white kid with the mullett.) Kids all over would repeat it. I'm sure every woman here would rather hear for themselves and their daughters "Right on sweet soul sister!" over "Bitch you need to let me put my dick in dat ass!"

JTF,
I watched it while at work on channel 7. No one at my job has seen this movie before and they were all into it. Too bad they are just discovering this talented woman now! RIP
