Recently I had the great priviledge of seeing Tom Waits perform at the Paramount in Seattle. This was by far the best concert I've ever attended.
Wrote a poem about it. Like ta hear it? Here it go.
-Go Tom Go!
name big as life
on the marquee in lights
young and old
flocked like gulls
with their clean pressed suits & gowns
and cotton candy eyes
or leather jackets and lip rings
buzzing like flies
ticket taker taking tickets
“just go up the stairs and to the left”
the lights turned down
and the crowd turned up
Tom stomped out with his hat tilted back
the theater shook like a train coming off the track
whistling – screeching – screaming mob
rhythmic jungle drums
stand up bass - dum-dum-dum
a voice from another world
grimy and twisted and curled
Tom sang of sins
how to lose how to win
Tom sang of shame
how to see through the game
left me cracked open and exposed
with only myself to figure it out
the lights turned down
and the crowd turned up
Tom stomped out with his hat tilted back
the theater shook like a train coming off the track
whistling – screeching – screaming mob
Go Tom Go!
wail away
play them blues
like they never been played
Go Tom Go!
shout it out
bare your soul
and leave no doubt
Go Tom Go!
Go Tom Go!

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
