My Friend Gene
Hi Guys,
A lot of you know me and you know I love to fool around and stuff.
Saturday night I got a phone call. It was the daughter of my best friend and she was calling to tell me her father had passed away.
The news hit me with such force that it sent me into denial and Sunday became a blur.
I PMed a few people and told them I had lost a friend and I wouldn't be on much for a few days.
Monday I went to work and I thought about Gene all day. I would attend his wake on the way home from work.
Well when I got there and saw him, it came crashing home.
This man was like my brother and I will miss him deeply.
I know these are far and few between, but he was the type of friend that I know if I ever needed him, no matter what time of day, he would be there, and he proved it in the worst times of my life.
Through a messy divorce and the passing of my parents 16 months apart, he was with me.
The funeral was this morning and I have been crying all day. I am crying as I write this.
But I wrote a poem for my friend Gene, a man I will miss for the rest of my life.
My Friend Gene
Eugene was my brother,
Not in blood, but in heart,
He left me last week,
And I wasn’t ready to part,
With person who helped me
And taught me how to see,
That things will be better,
If I allowed them to be.
There’s no problem to big,
When your friends lend you a hand
But I didn’t have that many friends,
Not as many as I had planned.
I don’t allow people too close
And I pass it off as shy,
But my friend Gene saw right through me
And he told me he knew why,
He said. “You have to learn to trust again,
And I know you’ve had some pain,
When things in life don’t go just right,
Don’t let the bitterness remain.”
Gene showed me what a friend was,
And I was sure I already knew
But I didn’t know jack squat,
I never had a clue.
He was there when I needed him
No matter what the time of the day,
And it’s killing me now, because I know,
He’s not a phone call away.”
And now, I don’t want to believe he’s gone,
Because I don’t have a place to lean,
Or cry on to the shoulder,
Of my best friend Gene.
I hope someday to think of him
And not begin to cry
I don’t see that happening soon,
But I swear to God I’ll try.
This is the end of my homage,
And the tears are beginning to stream,
I hope someday, you’re as lucky as me
To have a friend like Gene.
See you guys tomorrow.

billyb0y,
God Bless you and Gene's family.
God Bless you and Gene's family.
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

Jennifer,
It was real bad for a couple of days, and it still hurts now, but I decided to be ,as good a friend to the family he left behind, as he was to me.
Life goes on(just barely).
Thanks for caring!

Re: My Friend Gene
billyb0y,
Hello, my condolences....here's something that maybe you can identify with..
Mourn the Passing
out of the sky
a streak of light
I mourn the passing
of a fallen star
It gave us light
a hope in the night
I will feel the scar
til the very end
For this star was mine
for me it did shine
for when it fell out of the sky
before another word was spoken
I knew an I heard
My heart was broken
broken with no remedy
And I see
nothing afar
I shall mourn the passing
of a fallen star
til the very end
later man
